Scottish Birds, Culture and tradition. A unique book exploring the wealth of tradition, history and lore about birds in Scotland. Dr Hull describes Scottish Birds as a distillation of a lifetime of looking at birds all over the world and being dissatisfied with what I found in books. The first part of the book tells the story of birds and man in Scotland since the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago. Dr Hull then lists the 195 species of birds that commonly occur in Scotland. Each has an individual entry, giving scientific, Gaelic and Scottish names and a brief history, along with curious facts and anecdotes from a vast range of records, folktales, statistical accounts and eye-witness reports.
